MNR Usage Tips
My Toolbox (Horizontal Toolbar)
Tools for the research enterprise play a critical part in the success of the individual researcher. MyNetResearch enhances its members’ research by providing six powerful tools to help in various stages of any research project. We will profile one tool in each of the next several newsletters. Access to these tools is available to Premium and Institutional members.
Literature Search and Citation Analyzer
It enables you to perform literature searches and citation analyses of selected research papers. With it, you can also create a bibliography of your selected papers
- Not making selection in any drop down menus will result in a paginated listing of all the journals
- Click Journal to see the complete listing of available journals meeting your chosen criteria
- You can choose any combination of Discipline, Subject, Rank and Review Type to narrow your Journal listing
- Normal view shows Record Number, Subject, Rank, Journal Name, Review Type, Publication Frequency, Languages, Publication Charge, About the Journal, Audience and URL
For example, when you select Discipline | Clinical Medicine; Rank | Reputable; Review Type | Peer - your listing only shows Record Number, Subject, Journal Name, Publication Frequency, Languages, Publication Charge, About the Journal, Audience and URL
- Your selected criteria appear below the Journal Selection guide in breadcrumb format. The above search, for example, will show: "You have selected: Clinical Medicine, Reputable, Peer" in this format.

Online Social Networking and Online Research Networking
As social media becomes ubiquitous, they increasingly are the center of research attention. “The power of social media is turning old models on their heads,” says Fraser, co-author along with Dutta, of Throwing Sheep in the Boardroom: How Online Social Networking Will Transform Your Life, Work and World (Wiley, 2008). “In the Web 2.0 world, fans become celebrities, students become teachers, customers become producers, employees become bosses, citizens become politicians, Davids become Goliaths.”
While researchers, particularly in the business and social sciences disciplines see social media as objects of study, all research disciplines seem to be moving more slowly to adapting it for the practice of their work. Research sites like MyNetResearch.com and others are the professional version of social media. What is the impact of online research networking on your discipline?

Each week, look in the discipline forums to find the Calls for Grants, together with ideas for possible proposals. Interested researchers who coalesce around a grant proposal will receive the assistance of a MyNetResearch facilitator, who will advise collaborators on grant proposals, provide grant templates, and even help with an initial review. Visit the forums often and look out for new information on grants.
