What Do You Bring to the Table?collaboration
Research collaboration is all about synergy, our combined effort being much more than the sum of our individual efforts. An example: a professor and his grad student in the US working with another two professors in Greece and India, to come up with concepts and a paper that would never have come about any other way.

So what do you bring to the table? You bring your ideas, your passion and your willingness to work in an entirely new way. You bring a willingness to explore collaborations and professional relationships with professors, grad students, corporate and private researchers to create something that is more than the sum of your individual contributions. That is Research 2.0, and it has arrived.

So go ahead and find new collaborators using the Find a Researcher function or share your ideas or questions through the Forums function. Read the Blogs or Articles to hear about what others are doing and find out about the latest developments in your field through My News and Research Videos.

Before long, the research world will be divided into those who use MyNetResearch and allied tools and those who do not and lag behind in their productivity. We welcome you to the new research paradigm and don't forget to Invite your Friends.

(2) Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation  (CDI)

National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced a new Grant Competition - From the RFP:

Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation (CDI) is NSF’s bold five-year initiative to create revolutionary science and engineering research outcomes made possible by innovations and advances in computational thinking.  Computational thinking is defined comprehensively to encompass computational concepts, methods, models, algorithms, and tools.   Applied in challenging science and engineering research and education contexts, computational thinking promises a profound impact on the Nation’s ability to generate and apply new knowledge.  Collectively, CDI research outcomes are expected to produce paradigm shifts in our understanding of a wide range of science and engineering phenomena and socio-technical innovations that create new wealth and enhance the national quality of life.

CDI seeks ambitious, transformative, multidisciplinary research proposals within or across the following three thematic areas:

  • From Data to Knowledge: enhancing human cognition and generating new knowledge from a wealth of heterogeneous digital data;
  • Understanding Complexity in Natural, Built, and Social Systems: deriving fundamental insights on systems comprising multiple interacting elements;  and
  • Virtual Organizations: enhancing discovery and innovation by bringing people and resources together across institutional, geographical and cultural boundaries.

$36 million will fund 30 grants. The key dates are:

Application Due Date(s): February 4 and 5, 2010
