The Inauguration and Crowdsourced Photograph
Were you in Washington D.C for the Presidential inauguration? Did you upload your photographs to CNN.com? If you did, you may have contributed to the breathtaking 3D photograph of President Obama taking the oath of office. CNN created this image by using PhotoSynth to combine thousands of photographs that were uploaded by the public. Crowdsourcing is a concept of incorporating the individual work of undefined and large networks into one photographic image.
With the advent of Web 2.0 technologies, the crowdsourcing is a becoming popular problem-solving model. Individual ideas combine to achieve the best mix solution. Web 2.0 based research portals, like MyNetResearch, with its diverse set of researchers, can help harness the collective intelligence of researchers across the world to solve problems such as the energy crisis, healthcare and poverty. No matter the purpose — for pleasure, business, or research the use of crowdsourcing appears set to grow dramatically.

Discipline Specific Grant-Writing Forums
In the forums, organized by discipline, look out for Calls for Grants identified by our Grants Editor. Each week, look in the discipline forums to find the Calls for Grants, together with ideas for possible proposals. Interested researchers who coalesce around a grant proposal will receive the assistance of a MyNetResearch facilitator, who will advise collaborators on grant proposals, provide grant templates, and even help with an initial review. Visit the forums often and look out for new information on grants.
