MyNetResearch Awards Competition 2009!!
We receive questions every month regarding the timing of our next research competition. Thus, we are pleased to announce the 2009 MyNetResearch Grant Awards Competition. This year, we will award prizes of Institutional Licenses to three successful grant competition winners for their respective universities worth $50,000 each.
Each successful grant award will include a 1-year, 1000-user Institutional license for MyNetResearch at the awardee's university. The license gives research faculty and graduate students full use of MyNetResearch Premium features for one full year free-of-charge.
The competition is open to faculty at any university with a graduate program. This international award will be made for the most outstanding proposals that describe how e-Research collaborative portals can be used to advance collaborative research and knowledge sharing at their university. The proposal should not be longer than 1,500 words.

Warning about Online Scams
We have had reports of scam emails being sent to our members. In each case, we have immediately deleted the offender's profile and will continue to do so, to keep this a safe and professional working environment. Please remember that scammers visit every successful, growing network under false pretenses and seeking to quickly take conversations offline.
Please be wary, especially for communicating with those whose focus quickly switches to personal details and eventually, to money. Ours is a research collaboration network. Do not exchange financial data with anyone on our network and report any offenders to admin@mynetresearch.com. They will be instantly deleted from the network, without recourse.

Successful Project Processes
As I read about the many collaborative research efforts announced daily, I wonder how the projects actually work after the announcement. For example, “The first joint institution for research and research training in areas of mutual importance to India and Australia has been established between the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, or IITB, and Monash University in Melbourne. The new institution was officially opened at the end of November and is a centre of research excellence in clean energy, water, biotechnology, mineral exploration and computer simulation.” http://www.universityworldnews.com/article.php?story=20090108191255285.
What kinds of processes are set up? How do they communicate? How are files and documents exchanged? Is there training on the collaborative processes as well as the actual work? Is there a manual on how to set up the processes? While each project may capture what worked and what did not, there are few, if any, repositories for the best practices on research collaboration in general and by discipline. As we increase our usage of Web 2.0 technology, we may begin to understand better how and why certain projects are successful. Perhaps we can begin a dialog or exchange resources on this.
