Who are Pure Cremation?

A pure cremation is also known as a direct cremation. It separates the cremation element, known as a committal, from the ceremony or remembrance of life. Pure Cremation state that this type of service can save up to 60% of the costs of a more traditional funeral. Generally, friends and family do not attend a direct cremation; however, Pure Cremation can include this option as an extra service.

Some families prefer a direct cremation as it gives them the flexibility to organise a special and unique way to remember their loved one, while Pure Cremation take care of the committal.

Pure Cremation offer two types of Funeral Plans. The two options are: The Trust-Based Plan, and The Over 50s Insurance Plan. These Funeral Plans have competitive pricing, and they all include different service offerings, so it’s essential to understand the details.

The plans are exclusively for direct cremation funerals and individuals who would prefer a burial should look for a Funeral Plan provider that offers prepaid plans that accommodate burials.

The Trust-Based Plan

The Pure Cremation Trust-Based Plan is a low-cost direct cremation. It includes the following services:

  • Collection of the deceased from mainland England, Scotland (excluding Highlands and Islands) and Wales at any time
  • Care of the deceased
  • Transport of the deceased to the crematorium
  • An eco-friendly coffin made from pine
  • Ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance or delivered by hand within mainland England, Scotland and Wales
  • Doctor’s fees
  • Pure Cremation’s admin fee
  • Cremation at your chosen crematorium, without attendees

Your representative can pay for these additions at the time the services are required:

  • Faster return of ashes
  • Attendance at the crematorium
  • XXL coffin

Over 50s Insurance Plan

The Over 50s Insurance Plan from Pure Cremation is a policy for individuals aged 50 and above. It guarantees to meet the costs of a Pure Cremation when needed, as long as the plan holder has met the payment terms. The plan includes the following:

  • Collection of the deceased from mainland England, Scotland (excluding Highlands and Islands) and Wales at any time
  • Care of the deceased
  • Transport of the deceased to the crematorium
  • An eco-friendly coffin made from pine
  • Ashes delivered by hand within mainland England, Scotland and Wales within 21 days
  • Doctor’s fees
  • Pure Cremation’s admin fee
  • Cremation at your chosen crematorium, without attendees

What happens if I take out a Pure Cremation Plan?

Once you have signed up to a plan with Pure Cremation, they will send you the following within two weeks:

  • Thank you letter
  • A summary of your direct cremation plan and payments
  • A record of your wishes outlining your special requests
  • A certificate including your plan number
  • A card to carry on you that informs everyone about what to do when the moment arrives

If you take out a plan with Pure Cremation and change your mind, then you are entitled to a full refund within 30 days. If you cancel a Trust-Based Plan after this period, then Pure Cremation take a cancellation fee of £350 from any amount due to be returned to you. Customers of the Over 50s Funeral Plan will not receive any form of a refund after 30 days.

Where do Pure Cremation keep their clients’ money?

Pure Cremation protect their customers’ funds relating to the Trust-Based Plan within a Trust that releases the money when the time of need comes.

For customer funds relating to the Over 50s Plan, Pure Cremation secure a ‘whole of life policy, from Scottish Friendly who have been in this business since 1862 and are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority.

Do they offer guarantees?

Pure Cremation offer The Pure Promise, which is a commitment to completely guarantee prepaid direct cremation plans, so that you receive the service you have chosen, when the time comes.

What payment options are available?

The Over 50s Insurance Plan comes as a monthly premium.

Pure Cremation allow Trust-Based Plan customers to select from three payment options:

  • A single payment, covering the full cost of the Funeral Plan
  • Over six months to 60 months fixed instalment plans, which include a fee of an additional 4% per year. Alternatively you can pay within six months at no extra cost
  • Ongoing monthly premiums until the age of 90 or death, whichever comes sooner

Pure Cremation accepts payments in full by debit card, credit card or cheque. Instalment plans use direct debit.

Pure Cremation will acknowledge your complaint within five working days. They aim to send a final response within 28 days of receiving your complaint.
